MISSIONS: BECAUSE OF A MAN ON A ROCK

“Twelve years waiting for someone to come by and tell his people about Jesus..."

There he was, standing on a rock, high on the hillside of a mountain range in Papa, New Guinea. We were visiting our missionary friends, the Bakers, and also sharing in the services at night. Graham was taking me on a tour of different villages where his teams had pioneered and started lotus (churches).

As our Jeep was getting close to the top of this mountain, the man on the rock was calling to us. It was obvious that he desired to stop us because he had something to tell us. He waved his arms and yelled; he got my attention. I spoke to Graham, "who is that man and what is he doing?" Graham answered, "He is a lone Christian who comes from a village that you can't see, just beyond that ridge; he thinks that perhaps we know and understand God and he would like us to stop and tell his people about Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ has totally changed his life and he desires that his people know and have the joy and peace that he himself has since coming to Him." I asked how long had he been doing this; Graham replied that this New Guinean Christian man had been coming to this place every morning at sunrise and staying until dark every day for eight years. This touched me. I said, "why don't you go"; the reply was, "we have three times as much as was can do on our mission station and many other outreaches, besides, there are dozens of villages closer and just as needy as this man's village."

This experience lingered with me for a season. I thought within myself, it looked like there would be someone to go tell those poor heathen sinners about Jesus. After sometime that man and my feelings subsided; I went back to America, and went about my daily duties in the Lord's work. Four years later, we got the call to return to Papa, New Guinea.

Loraine and I revisited our friends. We were also sharing in the evenings and many people were coming to the Lord and being healed. Graham said again, "Brother Worley, let us take a ride out to some of the villages; I would love to show you where God has moved and the churches being established." Off we went, over the rough mountain roads of New Guinea.

After some miles, we came around a curve and 1 looked to my right and over on another ridge waving his hands and calling out for us to stop. I called Graham's attention to the man on the rock. "Graham, is that the same man that we saw four years ago?' "Yes," was the reply that Graham gave me. This time God got a hold on me. I could not shake this experience. I saw people all over the world calling out to me. Please come or send someone to tell our people about Jesus. I was arrested.

A. S. Worley had to do something about getting someone to this man's village and to the thousands of others who are calling out for the gospel to be brought to their people. This man had been faithful for at least twelve long wears to come and sit on that rock, and when a motor vehicle appeared, to stand and try and get them to stop, hoping there would be missionary or another Christian to come and tell h people about Jesus.

From that moment, a vision was born; a burden for the lost peoples of the world was placed in my heart. I went back to Australia, and then on to South Africa, England, Wales, and to Germany. Eve though I shared the gospel and saw wonderful result the man on the rock, the Rock Himself (Christ Jesu had gotten hold of his heart. Now, nothing else mac a difference. (by: Apostle A. S. Worley)

Armed with God's missionary vision, Apostle A. S. Worley returned to America and began a training center in Wahalla, S.C. From this central base I began to teach and equip others for the mission field Apostle Lindon Frost met Apostle A. S. Worley June of 1985 and he became one if his spiritual mentors. Apostle Worley went on for many years al with his training center up until his death.

Why Go On A Mission Trip?

First of all, you will see something that you ha never seen before. Your attitude will change and y will never be the same again.

You will be getting close to the heart of God ; you look into the eyes of those lovely, yet needy people. God will touch your heart and compassion will come into your heart to do something for the people. You will help because the good Lord w touch and you fell the tug. You will pray, cry, and rejoice at the opportunity and fulfillment of this new found expression of touching some one for Jesus.

Hope following is a testimony of a mission trip: In America, we have more opportunities to hear the Gospel than any other country. There are places in the world where they are crying for teaching, simple foundational teaching like you get in Sunday school every week. I was trained through Apostle Worley's ministry and have been to Haiti, Mexico, Hong Kong, China, and the Philippines.

In the Philippines, I have saw the need of teaching more than ever before. We taught pastors in seminars who did not have as much teaching as the average Christian in America, but were enlarging and strengthening by sowing what seed they had. To whom much is given, much is required. How much have you been given? Some say, I don't have the time or the money to take a trip.

If you can take two or four weeks and up to two thousand dollars (believe for that instead of a new car), then you can go to most any place in the world. I shared a short message in the village in the Philippines where there was no church. About 50 were saved, some healed, and now a church with a pastor just out of school was there. Was it worth it? I will be reaping not only now but throughout eternity.

Yes, it was worth it. (by: Robert Pearce, former missionary to South America who lived on the Amazon River.)
